North Vancouver Wrestling
Wrestling, a focal sport of the ancient Olympic Games, is one of the oldest forms of martial arts and combat sports known and is thought to have originated at least 15000 years ago. It involves grappling techniques such as clinch fighting, throws, takedowns, joint locks, pins, and other grappling holds. Wrestling is widely accepted for scholarship programs by all of the universities in North America along with many in other parts of the world.
At E.O.M.A, we teach freestyle wrestling and incorporate traditional martial arts methods and values into our program. We highly regard wrestling as one of the best non-violent, self-defense disciplines one can practice and its health and fitness benefits rank among the best in all martial arts and combat sports. Wrestlers are known for their strength, endurance, and resilience but at E.O.M.A, these skills will be taught with an emphasis on respect, humility, and honor.
We are the only full-time wrestling program on the North Shore, located in North Vancouver at 840 West 15th Street, but we are literally 10 minutes from West Vancouver City Center. Typically, students usually start wrestling in high school for a few months out of the year during wrestling season. They must then compete with other schools across the country as well as for university scholarships. We offer the advantage of being able to start your child at a young age and practice all year-round which is a great opportunity to give your child a head start. Wrestling is one of the best kept secrets for university admissions. A student does not have to be great or qualify for a scholarship to be considered for admission, but just has to have wrestled in school. Admissions officers base their decision on whether or not the student is capable of completing the courses and has the dedication needed to graduate. Wrestling is often seen as an individual snapshot of the discipline and willingness to dedicate oneself to a difficult task over an extended period of time.
