North Vancouver Boxing
Boxing has been around for centuries and is one of the original martial arts. The focus is to deliver strikes to the opponent’s head and body using one’s fist, usually with gloved hands. It is one of the most effective and fun ways to drop body fat, develop balance, coordination, and overall fitness for men, women, and children of all ages.
At our academy in North Vancouver, which we also serve the community of West Vancouver , we have adopted the traditional martial art ranking system and customized our boxing program to be taught in levels by using different color hand wraps. This ranking system effectively tracks a student’s progress and achievements. The student must show proficiency not only in the physical aspects but also in the mental and social teachings of our school. Furthermore, as the health and well being of our young students is our top priority, children under 12 will not be engaged in full contact sparring since studies have shown repeated head blows may have adverse effects on the developing brain. As a result, full contact sparring will only be included with a parent’s written consent and only after the age of 12. All other training will be the same and young students will get the full benefits of boxing such as foot work, movement drills, pads, combinations, and step sparring along with some light contact sparring with parental approval. Amateur boxing has been an Olympic sport since 668 BC.
