At E.O.M.A, our goal is to challenge and inspire our
students, thru Martial Arts, to persevere in any endeavor they choose to
undertake in life. Just as the famous Greek philosopher
Plato once said, “The first and greatest victory is
to conquer self,” we believe through preparation and
resolution, one will have conquered oneself and will
be ready to attain life’s victories. Our mission is to
train our students to have the physical health, mental
focus, and determination needed to successfully
achieve the goals they set. Our purpose is not to
produce Olympic medalists but to produce Olympians
of life. We emphasize the Olympic games for what they
originally stood for which was honorable competition
and goodwill among all the different races of the
world. We derive our inspiration from the Olympic
Creed: The most important thing in the Olympic Games
is not to win, but to take part, just like the most important
thing in life is not the triumph, but the struggle.
Students at E.O.M.A. will learn not to honour victory
over others, but to honour victory over themselves,
thus becoming the best they can truly be. Through
constant training, they will unceasingly strive to reach
excellence until it becomes natural – a habit. Although we are located in North Vancouver, a portion of our students do come from the nearby community of West Vancouver.
“We are what we repeatedly do, excellence
then is not an act, but a habit.” Aristotle
Through our comprehensive and rigorous curriculum,
our students will develop the ultimate physical and
mental ability with a well-rounded skillset to defend
themselves against any attacker should the situation
ever arise. Nevertheless, our focus is on developing
the mind so that our students will know how to resolve
conflicts without the use of physical force. We stress
that there are no such things as fighting words and
those who give into such notions have not yet been
able to conquer themselves. This is also a reason why
E.O.M.A chooses to teach each individual style in its
pure form and does not resemble the MMA style of
teaching, for we firmly believe many of the valuable,
time-honored principles intrinsic in the martial arts
are lost in the MMA influenced culture so popular
today. The skills our students attain will unquestionably
make them well-rounded mixed martial artists, but we
do not believe students should be training with the
goal of fighting in a cage for money. We emphasize the
core traditional values inherent in each individual
martial art. Should competition become a goal for any
of our students, the arena of amateur competition for
one’s country is where they will be encouraged to
compete.
